Resumen
La mutilación genital femenina y el aborto: dos dilemas éticos
con dos enfoques resolutivos diferentes
La mutilación genital femenina supone un dilema ético en nuestro
entorno. Es un problema derivado del choque cultural entre la tradición
de los inmigrantes, para quienes se trata de una costumbre social, y la
concepción de la población autóctona, donde está
considerada como una práctica inaceptable. Sin embargo, el enfoque
adoptado por nuestra sociedad no deja de ser incoherente cuando lo comparamos
con la postura adoptada ante el aborto, un dilema ético también
relacionado con la salud reproductiva de la mujer. Occidente debería
afrontar esta incoherencia y aplicarse los argumentos que defiende en contra de
la mutilación genital en el campo del aborto. Si no, estamos abocados a
una confrontación arbitraria y subjetiva, donde una sociedad está
imponiendo unos principios a otra cuando ni ella misma los aplica en otras
circunstancias comparables.

Abstract
Abortion and woman genital mutilation: two ethics dilemes with different
aproach resolutions
The female genital mutilation puts us in an ethical dilemma in our social
environment. This is a problem that derives from the cultural clash between the
tradition of immigrants, to whom this practice is a social custom, and the
developed world, where it’s seen as unacceptable practice. However, the
approach assumed by our society is incoherent when we compare it with our
attitude towards abortion, an ethical dilemma also linked with female
reproductive health. Western countries have to face this incoherence and apply
same arguments over abortion that defends in female genital mutilation.
Otherwise, we will end up with an arbitrary and subjective confrontation, where
a society is imposing certain principles to some when they themselves do not
apply it other similar circumstances.
